Namatjira celebrated in Geelong

An exhibition of original watercolour paintings by the descendants of Albert Namatjira and his Hermannsberg contemporaries is coming to Geelong.

To coincide with the theatre production of Namatjira at GPAC, Metropolis Gallery in association with Ngurratjuta Iltja Ntjarra ‘Many Hands’ Art Centre are hosting Namatjira: Regeneration.

The exhibition of over 50 watercolours which depict the rugged beauty of the central desert, will be opened by actor Trevor Jamieson tomorrow night, Wednesday 7 September. All the details and a selection of the landscape paintings can be viewed on the Metropolis Gallery website.

Geelong Gallery will also display one of Albert Namatjira’s original paintings as well as some works by Namatjira’s relatives.

The play Namatjira runs from 8–10 September at GPAC. It tells the remarkable story of famous water colourist and western Aranda man Albert Namatjira and it was a sell out at the Malthouse Theatre in Melbourne.
