Tomorrow, Friday 6 May, Penny Byrne will be giving an illustrated lecture at Geelong Gallery about her art practice and providing insights to the works on display in the exhibition Commentariat.
Described as a political cartoonist working in the ceramic medium, Byrne’s work covers a range of contemporary issues from the environment, to Australian and American politics and current events. Originally better known for restoring ceramics as a specialist conservator, Byrne’s artistic practice sees her reworking ceramic figurines to create forms that provoke comment for their confronting, witty and unapologetic imagery.
Hosted by the Friends of the Gallery, the event will begin at 10.30am with coffee, tea and scones before an illustrated lecture at 11.00am. Cost: members $8.00; non-members $10. (This is a Deakin University touring exhibition.)
