My Art Garden is Jayshree Leigh’s first solo exhibition in Australia and she hopes to share with you a glimpse of the world where ‘one’s mind grows wild!’
Her vibrant colourful works reflect her perception of the world around her. The natural energy of what she sees, hears and feels is an important aspect of the work she creates. She tries to capture the very essence and nature of the places visited or the emotions felt. Her Indian heritage can be seen in the use of strong, bright colours. Patterns are a particular source of inspiration, especially flower and bird motifs, as well as a love for trees, the sea, sunsets and sunrises. She has been amazed by the Australian outback and has found inspiration everywhere in her travels around Australia, from the coast to the red centre.
Leigh’s love of experimenting with different materials led her to complete a Bachelor of Design degree at Liverpool University, England in 1992. In 1993 she gained a Post Graduate Certificate in Education. She also gained a Diploma in NMT, Neuro-Muscular Transmission, an alternative healing therapy which she now practises.
Trips to India and Thailand, and now a life changing move to Australia, have had a huge impact on Leigh’s artwork. Joyful and expressive, her paintings nearly jump off the walls with exuberant excitement.
